Purpose

The Physics Validation WG ensures the robustness and reliability of Geant4’s physics by performing systematic validation, maintaining essential infrastructure, and fostering collaboration across the Geant4 community.

Mandate

  1. Systematic Physics Validation:
    • Conduct regular validations of Geant4 development and public releases.
    • Identify and report physics regressions or issues to the collaboration in a timely manner
  2. Infrastructure Maintenance and Enhancement:
    • Maintain, document, and improve tools and infrastructure necessary for validation (e.g., Geant-val).
    • Enable Geant4 participating members to run validations on local resources where appropriate
  3. Core Validation Applications:
    • Maintain a central repository with validation applications
    • Support Physics WGs in developing and maintaining core validation applications.
    • Revise and enforce policies/requirements to ensure validation applications are: consistent, CPU-optimized, easily integrable into Geant-val, documented and sustainable for future use.
  4. Collaboration and Integration:
    • Work with Geant4 WGs to:
    • Identify gaps in validation coverage.
    • Encourage WGs to address and resolve identified gaps

History

The Physics Validation Working Group has been established as the successor to the former Physics Validation Task Force. This transition was formally approved by the Geant4 Steering Board on December 18, 2024.
